Fans pour into Phoenix, Arizona's Celebrity Theatre, where no seat is further than 75 feet from the stage. Each concert goer gets VIP seating with an exclusive view of the spinning circular dais. The name that graces the marquee--Angel Y Kriz. The overall mood of the venue--EXTRAORDINARY EXCITEMENT!
The first group to the stage is Envy, who is creating an enormous buzz in and around Phoenix. The group consists of two members who go by names El Matatan and Treinta Treinta. The opening act has the chore of getting the party started, and this magnetic pair doesn't disappoint! El Matatan, being the more laid back of the two performers, spits lyrics in a sexy tone that makes women blush. While Treinta Treinta, in his charismatic way, draws concert goers to the edge of the stage, where many fans remain to get a closer look at the engaging performers. For their last song they join forces with Nueva Liga, another pair of up and coming reggaeton artists in the Phoenix area. Together the gifted squad of Dominicans prepares the audience for a continued mix of good music, good times, and great performances.
Next to hit the stage is Adassa. If you're one of the few people left on earth who doesn’t know who this princesa de reggaeton is, think Shakira meets Janet Jackson. The only difference is that Adassa leaves the fancy footwork to her sexy male dancers. She is dressed in a bright gold mini skirt and wears black stiletto boots. This diva obviously has sex appeal. But is she more than just a pretty face? Will she connect with the crowd? The answer soon comes when she belts out a reggaeton rendition of Ciara’s hit song ‘1, 2, Step.’ Adassa’s performance is very interactive. She never hesitates to put the mic into the crowd and let fans help her sing hooks. Her voice is truly captivating. Whether she's performing reggaeton-influenced songs or songs influenced by other parts of her upbringing it is undeniable that Adassa is abundantly talented. During her title song ‘Kamasutra’, featuring Pitbull, the crowd cheers as she performs Pitbull’s verse over a recorded track! She ends her portion of the concert and one by one fans begin to yell “Otra, otra, otra mas!” She graciously blesses the audience with an unforgettable encore. She's a star in the arena of reggaeton, and her mini skirt isn’t the only thing gold. This Miami born, Columbian mami has a heart of gold. During this last song Adassa, hops down from the stage and reaches over the barricade to hug every fan within arms reach.
As the lights dim, fans begin to go wild for the group, who has not yet hit the stage. It's now clear why Celebrity Theatre, which usually puts fans within inches of the performers, had removed 3 rows of seats in the theatre to allow room for a barricade around the stage. The clean cut team walks out on stage looking like they have just stepped off the set of a music video. Their gear is crisp and their sound is amazing! Showcasing their melodic style of rapping, the group lights up the stage with hit after hit from their recent album, Los MVPs. The few fans that remained seated through prior performances are now up on their feet and making their way to the stage. Angel Y Khriz are one of many reggaeton artists who have recently brought their act to Phoenix. Without fail, Phoenix proves again and again that it has love for the once underground, but now very main stream Latin hip-hop. On opposite sides of the stage Angel Y Khriz are performing ‘Te Quiero Ver Hoy’ when fans begin reaching for just a touch of the twesome. The frenzied crowd is overcome with excitement and attempts to pull both performers into the crowd. Just when I thought Angel Y Khriz couldn’t get this crowd any more hype, they blow the roof off the place with their international smash hit ‘Ven Bailalo’. These Most Valuable Performers clearly have a winning game plan, which they execute to perfection right before our eyes.
