Recently, Reggaetonline.net spoke with Boy Wonder, one of the most prominent figures in the genre, on the video shoot for a collaboration between LDA and Baby Ranks called “Por Ti”(For You). Boy Wonder spoke about the state of Reggaeton, the new LDA album and the next Chosen Few project.
Reggaetonline.net: Boy Wonder, we wanted to know what you are currently up to and the reason for the video shoot today?
Boy Wonder: This video is for a song from LDA’s upcoming album. The reason for this video is I think a lot is happening right now with reggaeton. A lot of people are wondering what’s going on with reggaeton. This song is rock and reggaeton, it makes it more edgy, more exciting and I think that’s what the music really needs. It needs us, the producers, those involved in production, to get involved in doing other edgy stuff.
Reggaetonline.net: Where do you see the state of Reggaeton right now?
Boy Wonder: Had you asked me that two days ago I would have given you a different answer. Yesterday I came from Ecuador where LDA performed with Jowell & Randy, De la Ghetto, Vico C and Khris. And it was humongous, packed like in a big stadium. That’s all they do is listen to reggaeton out there. People have to start getting creative and very versatile with the music. And don’t force it, just be yourself and start knowing that the music has to evolve the same with the artists. There are a lot of new talents in the game, new producers in the game and that’s how the music keeps growing.
Reggaetonline.net: Is there a new artist &/or producer that you think is cutting edge in this genre?
Boy Wonder: LDA, they’re the first male/female duo. I know their album is very versatile, not just because I produced it, but they are very creative. They really took their album to another level. If you look this rock song on their new album and a huge hit in New York, ‘Ella Quiere’ and I think artists from ‘Chosen Few.’ Reychester Secretweapon, tremendous emcee, Fuego a versatile melodic singer and Getto who’s getting ready to release his new album who’s been out for a minute, but you know he’s getting ready to bring a whole new different style and sound. Hopefully, you’ll get to feel and hear it in this last ‘Chosen Few’ that I’m doing which they’re all involved in.
Reggaetonline.net: When could we expect LDA’s album and the new Chosen Few project?
Boy Wonder: God willing because he’s the only one that can make anything possible. You know I really realize that. LDA’s album will be out around Valentine’s Day being the fact they’re the first male and female duet. I would like to have this last ‘Chosen Few’ out for Easter.
