By Fabian Baez, Reggaetonline.net

November 20, 2007

Reggaetonline.net recognizes this movement wouldn’t occur without the involvement of the deejays. We spoke with a veteran, who’s the Official Chosen Few deejay DJ Hostile.

Reggaetonline.net: How did you get your start in deejaying and what motivated you to make this a career?

I've been DJaying since I was 12 years old, ever since I was in school I would put together mixtapes and sell them in my hood. By the time I was in high school, the demand for my mixtapes was tremendous, that’s when I realized that I had a certain sound and style of mixing music that people were very atrracted too. I had several things that motivated me, but it was always my personal focus that drove me to continue my grind!

Reggaetonline.net: Are you involved in different areas of djing, such as, mixtapes,
competing, etc.?

I have covered almost every angle in the DJ game from Basic House Parties, to Clubs, to mixtapes, to mix CD's, to Internet Radio, to Mainstream Radio. I have also been in competitions (1 Scratching, 1 Beat Juggling, a few in the street and one on main stream radio). I am also a music producer, I have done production for several different mainstream albums and networks. My latest production work has been on MTV's "Road To Menudo Season 2".

Reggaetonline.net: Being that there are so many deejays, what helped you stand out from the rest?

I think there are a few things that makes me stand out from everyone else, first I let my music and mixing talk for itself. I’m not one of those DJ's that go on TV and Radio and talk on how good they are and how much they can do but when it comes down to it they all sound the same. I like to keep my music fresh, fresh blends, fresh mashups, I almost never do the same blend or mix twice!
Second is the fact that I can cater to almost all the Latin/Urban genre's. I can play a bunch of exclusive shit then hit you wit the classics right after! Latin Hip Hop, Reggaeton, Bachata, Merengue, Salsa, House, Spanish Rock, etc....

Reggaetonline: How were you able to get involved with Boy Wonder and Chosen Few?

I’ve known Boy Wonder since we were kids; we are from the same hood in Queens NY. I was doing my DJ / Beat making thing and he was doing his producing thing, at the time he approached me to start helping him record his first artist. Once I let him hear some samples of my beats we immediately clicked and I became one of the first members of the Chosen Few Family. We have worked together ever since. I will always rep Chosen Few as the "Official Chosen Few DJ".

Reggaetonline.net: Where can people go to hear DJ Hostile?

Right now I have two weekly mixshows on Mainstream radio.
1. "The Hostile Hour" every Friday from 7-8 pm on La Kalle 105.9 FM - New York City (www.yosoylakalle.com)
2. "The Hostile Hour" every Tuesday Late Night 12:30am to 1:30 am Eastern Time on La Bulla 90.9 FM - Salt Lake City UT (www.krcl.org )

I do guest mixshow's in several different cities so I can probably be live on the air in any major city at any given time!

I also have full production work on "Road To Menudo" on MTV (Check your local listings)
