Ektor Rivera Alicea was born in Bayamon and raised in Guaynabo. He describes his family as the average Puerto Rican family; not to rich and not too poor. Just like any young man growing up, he was curious about everything around him, and loved learning. He recalls that around the age of 11-13 he started hanging out with the wrong friends and they were always getting themselves in trouble. However, in the years to come he would start to turn his life around from trouble making schoolboy, to the great performer that he is today. “When I was 14 I realized I wanted to sing. I started trying to make music the best way I could around the house, Ektor told Reggaetonline.net. Artists like Hector Lavoe inspired him and like many other Latinos Salsa music ran through his veins.
When Ektor was 11 he started listening to Reggaeton “My first opportunity came when I was included in a CD called Reggaeton Maniacs,” recalled Ektor. “The producers of that album decided to make my song the first track and it was an honor. That told me that I have a great chance of making it big.” Ektor moved on to sing with a local salsa group. He caught the eye of the man who helped manage groups like Menudo and that connection lead him to his next big break. His Manager encouraged him to enter the local new singing contest, Objectivo Fama. Ojectivo Fama is a show that can be described as the Puerto Rican American Idol. Hector came in third place and ended up landing his first record deal with Univision Records.
After a performance to help promote his first album with Univision, Luny approached Ektor and offered him a place at Mas Flow. After much negotiating, Ektor is now a part of the Mas Flow family. His first track with the label, ‘I think I’m in Love’ is featured on “Los Benjamins: La Continuacion.”
Ektor is happy to be working on his next album now in the Mas Flow Studios. He also manages his own artist and an aspiring actor in what time his has to spare. With talent and motivation like this Ektor will no doubt be a key player in the Latin entertainment industry of today and the future.
