Heya everyone :D
I was reading another post about Aventura and that they're a bachata group. What does this mean? And what are other bachata groups that sound good?

well, its kinda a mix of delicate sounding fast merengue and some salsa, its really well known especially in dominican rep. Aventura is the best in the game and they often collaborate with reggaeton artists and add their sound to songs.

Bachata also has the reputation of being "Country" music... sort of like "Jibaro" music in Puerto Rico. I've heard a few such songs and they do sound like bachata to my untrained ears, and while Bachata has been pretty popular in the DR, it was a form of music generally looked down upon until recently; you wouldn't hear it played on radio stations in Santo Domingo & played in "high end" clubs. Groups who played Merengue got paid lots more than Bachata groups because of the way Bachata was frowned upon by the "elite".

Bachata is somewhat looked as "low class" because it originated in prostitution houses in Dominican Republic. It is compared to the "country music" of DR. Also, about 99% of the songs are about broker hearts/bad relationships lol

However, Bachata is HUGE in Jersey, due to lots of Dominicans. Also big in DC, Baltimore, Providence, NYC, northeast mostly.

Lots of Reggaeton producers (most notably Nely) have combined the Bachata acoustic guitar in their beats. Just recently Bachata artists have collaborated with Reggaeton artists...
