I know some of you recognize the name Fania, right? will if it does not ring a bell... Fania is the record compay responsible for the explosion of salsa music in the United States back in the 60's and 70's. well fast forwarding to the the present.... Emusica took on a major project and decided to remastered some of these famous albums from people such as Celia Cruz, Tito Puentes, Eddie Palmieri, Joe Battan, the list goes on and on. for the complete list and for any updates check out the offical website: http://faniarecords.com/Fania/site/Home.aspx
Give me your opinion... do you think what Emusica is doing a good idea for the salsa lovers around the world and in general?

My boss at Universal thinks that it's going to boost sells for the latin music industry.

I agree with the idea of re-issuing and re-mastering all the classic music from the 70's that allowed the latin people in NY to express themselves, which was essentially the Fania at heart. I love this music and personally own many of these albums, so I wished they had started earlier, but somebody needed to rescue this music and bring it to the new century.
Hopefully Emusica will do it right and re-issue all the relevant albums from this magical era. I wished I was born around the 50's so that I could've enjoyed the salsa boom of the 70's and be over 21 to go to every concert :D I love reggaeton too, but I wished I had experience the rise of salsa too. These are my two favorite musics so I'll be checking this project closely.
ps I saw the packaging, and I don't like the fact that the covers are like a picture of the original album art into the cover of the current CD. Although it brings a book with pics and other cool stuff, I like my covers to be just that, cover and album art exclusevely, and not emphasize the fact that it is a re-issue. Do that in the back cover or something!!! People (collectionists like me) got CD books to keep up!

You know somethimes I wish i was born in certain eras also, especially in the 50's and 60's. In my house we grew up listening to salsa. Being latina we attended serveral parties... and danced to the early morning. Now when i go out to clubs, mainly salsa clubs, It brings back so many memories of my childhood. I jump up from my seat and involve myself in the song, I love the way music makes me feel. Thank you for sharing your opinion with me. I'm glad you appreciate what Emusic is doing for salsa lover and soon to be salsa lovers. yes hopefully this explodes and more people are exposed to the beautiful music created by Latinos but embraed by the world.

Salsa is like Reggaeton to me, very easy to go on talking about it. I love it dearly. I'm actually currently going through my 2nd big phase, and like 4th overall, of re-discovering some salsa that I haven't experienced yet. Its big, because that's all I got playing lately in my MP3 player: Chamaco Ramirez with Tommy Olivencia-Plante Bandera (http://comborecords.com/store/Details.CFM?CID=872441042) and Juntos De Nuevo (http://comborecords.com/store/Details.CFM?CID=8724401035) , Willie Colon's La Gran Fuga, (http://comborecords.com/store/Details.CFM?CID=872440394) Bobby Valentin's Afuera (http://comborecords.com/store/Details.CFM?CID=96921104) and Hommy A Latin Opera (http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/store/artist/album/0,,98948,00.html) . Those are my current albums right now and I don't get tired of them.
Any classic Salsa you currently/lately been listening to?

Got to come to NY in the summer and try the spanish clubs out here. Although nothing compares to going to the salsa/merengue clubs in PR (and prob. DR although I dont know them). I was in PR 2 weeks ago and we went to this spot called Coco De Agua (coconut water) and they were jamming and some excellent dancers were showing their goods. I can get down and Im just 22, but I usually have to dance with older women, because the young girls are intimidated because is salsa. Young peeps are into bachata, merengue and reggaeton. I guess if your family listens and dances to it is more likely you know something.
