New and old Reggaeton songs are popping up on the radio across the country every day. Fans of the music are finally beginning to see the vast amount of talent that comes from Puerto Rico. Tego Calderon, Daddy Yankee and Don Omar are not the only heavy hitting Reggaeton artists that exist in this genre. One of Reggaeton’s favorite duos, Khriz Y Angel have produced two albums that came out this past summer, Los MVP’s and MVP 2: Grand Slam.
Los MVP’s is Khriz Y Angel’s own CD where they present the listener to soulful hits like Ven Bailalo and Te Quiero Ver Hoy, as well as De Caseria featuring Divino and the up beat Ram Pa Pan Pan. Showing off their ability to produce back to back high quality albums, they also offered the fans MVP 2 Grand Slam, a compilation CD that includes tracks from artists like Divino, Zion Y Lennox, Yaviah and Kriz y Angel’s tracks De Lao a Loa the heavy hitting FUA! which knocks the ball right out of the ball park for Reggaeton fans.
Khriz who is 24 was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico.” I had been trying to get into the music business since I was little, “Khriz told Reggaetonline.net in a recent interview. “ I was always very influenced by hip-hop and Reggaeton. Reggaeton has been around for many years, and it something that is just now being discovered by an international audience.” Together Khriz and Angel produce some of the best music in the Reggaeton industry.
Reggaeton artist have diverse backgrounds. Although Reggaeton is new to the United States many artist, like Khriz and Angel have been around for years making music, attending college, working hard and living from day to day just as any other person. “I studied 4 years at the University for Computer Science,” says Khriz, “Khriz and Angel have been doing Music professionally 3 years. I have been interested in this since I was 12 years old. Every since we heard [Reggaeton] music we became fanatics. We have always had talent to write lyrics. We both loved hip hop but, Reggaeton arrived and it was a little bit more tropical and we found it to be a little bit easier for us to work with. We have worked with Merengue, Bachata and Reggaeton. For future projects I would like to work with salsa, music that’s tropical. We would also like to work with Hip-hop artist because we are Hip-hop fanatics and it will be a huge step for Reggaeton and hip hop.” The duo has an open mind when it comes to the future of their music, and is looking for the genre to change and expand.
Angel and Khriz have worked with most of the producers and artist in Puerto Rico including but not limited to Luny Tunes, Nelly Nesty, Tiny, Sonic, and Noriega. “As far as hip-hop goes, we would like to work with the best Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Emenem and that would be a dream for us. Our future projects will include Chosen Few 2 and we are working on the next Angel y Khriz album. We are featured on Guata Gatos and Los Kambumbos..”
One problem Reggaeton faces in the United States is that people simply are confused as to what Reggaeton is. “For people that don’t know about Reggaeton, I would describe it as a type of music to dance to and to have a good time. People that don’t understand it should take a break and listen to it and they’ll like it,” Say Khriz with a chuckle. Most people in the United States who have already been hit by the Reggaeton bug can agree with Khriz. Fans find the music easy to dance to and the rhythm and lyrics fun to listen to, even if they don’t know a lick of Spanish. They also agree that the best way to find out about Reggaeton is to simply listen to good artists and producers like Khriz and Angel. “There’s a lot of great people and artists that represent Reggaeton and if we work hard we will be among that group of people,” says the duo. “We will continue to work hard to become house hold names around the world.”
Two of the best albums that were released this summer, Los MVP’s and MVP 2: Grand Slam, are excellent material to help anyone who simply wants to buy a good album to introduce them to Reggaeton. Los MVPS present some of Angel and Khriz’s best work as artists. MVP Grand Slam proves that the two can work side by side with other hot Reggaeton artist and come out on top.
