The fourth installment of the Latin Rap Conference took place in New York City on October 11th-13th, drawing industry power players such as Sony BMG Latin Chairman Kevin Lawrie, Universal/ Republic Records President Monte Lipman, Atlantic Records Chairman Craig Kallman, SRC Records CEO Steve Rifkind, Coalition Music Group Chairman Luis Navarro, as well as reggaeton megastars Zion, Arcangel y De La Ghetto, among many others. The LRC, which has been credited by Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Latin Media and Entertainment Commission for providing a testament to the genre’s ever-increasing potential and appeal, continued to deliver on this purpose by giving a platform for leading executives in the business to discuss the status of the Latin Urban genre with aspiring artists. Also in attendance were leading executives from MTV Tr3s, SiTV, AOL Latino, Mun2, Univision, Clear Channel, and Billboard.

“This movement of artists, record label executives, magazines, television networks, marketing firms, and radio stations all coming together for one event is extremely powerful,” says LRC founder Jesse Perez, p.k.a. Shysti, “and this year, it is stronger than ever before because we are gaining momentum with every conference.” This sentiment was shared by the hundreds of registrants that attended the Latin Rap Conference to hear panel discussions on emerging media outlets, sales and marketing via the internet, the Latin Urban format at radio, and how record label presidents are changing their business models to reflect the Latino Urban market.

A major highlight of this year’s LRC, which was hosted by poet, recording artist, actress and comedian, La Bruja, and La Kalle DJ Spin One, were the star studded performances. Reggaeton and Latin Hip Hop stars Notch, Rigo Luna, Malverde, and Tres Coronas performed to a full house during happy hour, which was hosted by Machete Music, while CMG’s Zion, Arcangel y De La Ghetto, and Sony BMG’s Toby Love stole the show during the closing night party.

Organized by Jesse Perez, p.ka. Shysti of Sicko Records, Rich Isaacson and Jerry Blair of Fuerte Group, and David Rodriguez of Clear Picture Entertainment Group, the LRC has become the forum for The Latin Rap Coalition Board of Directors (a group comprised of the genre’s top music executives, professionals, artists, and radio personalities) to discuss and take action towards the goals of education and Latino community empowerment. “The LRC has become the single most important networking event in this industry and we’re honored to have the full support of this growing community,” says Rich Isaacson who has already confirmed the addition of Boy Wonder of Chosen Few Emerald Entertainment, Elias DeLeon (owner of Puerto Rico’s White Lion Records), and Gaby Acevedo, President of SRC Records and manager to Tego Calderon, to the board of directors. Established members of the board already include Gustavo Lopez (President of Machete Records), the nationally syndicated Pocos Pero Locos founders Khool Aid and E-Dub, Rick Valenzuela of RikRaf Entertainment, Univision Radio’s Pete Manriquez, John Lopez of Upstairs Records, DJ Kazzanova of New York’s La Kalle 105.9, Mexican-American rapper Chingo Bling, and Toy Hernandez of Control Machete.
