November 24, 2006
The November 22nd Los Benjamins concert, marked a milestone for Mas flow and its staff. This was the concert of the year and brought Reggaeton artists from Puerto Rico together to celebrate the work of Francisco Saldaña and Victor Cabrera, Luny and Tunes respectively, and all of the Mas Flow producing staff.
The festivities began at the Mas flow studios where Luny, Tainy, Nales, Doble A, Thilo, and the Under Aged, gathered along with Wise and a few other artists who arrived and hopped into the Hummer style limousines that awaited them. As the limousines reached Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan, reggaeton fans gathered to get a glimpse or even a handshake from the Mas Flow crew as they exited their vehicles.
Once inside it was easy to see that rumors of low ticket sales were false. The coliseum was almost at capacity by 9pm, and by 11pm there was hardly an empty seat in the house. Not only was the crowd filled with the expected reggaeton fans ranging from the ages of 8 to 25, but it seemed that this concert was an affair for the whole family with even grandparents in attendance. Accompanying the Mas Flow group was Wise, song writer of hits like the chorus of 'Noche de Entierro' and 'Hello', and 'Lento' all from the "Los Benjamins" album.
The concert started out with a bang, with an awesome performance from newcomer Miguelito, little brother of DJ Memo, and who at the age of 7 was the youngest artists at the concert. He performed three songs, including his smash hit ‘Montala’ and had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand by the time he finished with them.
Next came performances from Divino, Yaga & Mackie, John Eric, Trebol Clan and Magnate. This lineup was amazing, seeing as they were only a part of the opening acts and the night had just begun. All artists performed renditions of their greatest hits from various albums and ending their performances with hits produced by the people at Mas Flow.
The crowd endured a small intermission as the stage was set up for the second half of the concert. To jump start the rest of the night's performances, Hector ‘El Father’ came out unto a smoke filled stage to perform ‘Rumor De Guerra’ which featured Notty, ‘Sola’, ‘Los Cojo Bajando’ and finished with ‘El Teléfono’. Once the smoke settled the stage revealed a Casino back drop as depicted in the cover of the “Los Benjamins” album. Hector brought the crowd to its feet and from that moment on, it was a standing room only.
Arcangel & De la Ghetto, Jowell & Randy, Alexis & Fido as well as Dalmata were next. Arcangel & De la Ghetto performed ‘Mi Fanatica’, and ‘Agresivo’... and MORE ‘Agresivo’ because they felt the crowd could not get enough, and they were right because the fans sang along without missing one word of the hit song. As a surprise to everyone in the crowd, Jowell y Randy joined them on stage as well. In addition Jowell & Randy kept up the pace by performing a set of their own, and looked good doing it! Also in the house that night were “Los Reyes Del Perreo”, Alexis & Fido who performed ‘Me Quiere Besar’ and ended with ‘Eso Eh”, which of course had everyone perreando, even if they did not have a dance partner.
Of course Tito ‘El Bambino’ was present to celebrate Los Benjamins with Luny Tunes and Tainy, and had to get on stage and do his thing by performing ‘Caile,’ ‘Esta Noche’ and ‘Flow Natural’. His performance was awesome, but the ever elusive Deevani was sorely missed from this performance.
Once again Divino stepped on stage performing with Khriz & Angel who are always a crowd pleasing group. They ended their performance with a heart warming performance featuring Angel's son (maybe 2-3 years old), who had no problem feeling comfortable on stage with his father. ‘Ven Bailalo’ never sounded better! Yo-seph also performed along side his little brother, showing the crowd a culmination of his work so far.
(Now at this point in the concert I must have blacked out. Well, actually I took a potty break and missed one of the most talked about reunions in Reggaeton this year).
Baby Rasta was up next and he performed three songs including, ‘Toma Nena’ from his most recent album “La Ultima Risa,” which sounded HOT! Since most acts performed 3 to 4 songs average Reggaetonline.net staff took it upon themselves to take a potty break missing the surprise of the night. Gringo joined Baby Rasta on stage for their first performance since their separation; reminding their fans that a separation in the music industry does not always mean the end of great collaborations, and more importantly friendships.
The night ended with performances by Zion followed by Wisin & Yandel who performed along side, Franco "El Gorila", Tony Dize and Gadiel. Zion performed his hit ‘Alocate’ among other songs, which made the women swoon as usual. Wisin & Yandel closed out the show with help from Franco "El Gorila", Tony Dize and Gadiel. They performed "Pegao", "Eléctrica", "Envuélvete", "Yo te Quiero" and ended with an energetic "Pam, Pam" while the crowd sang along seemingly in a musical trance. This was by far one of the most electrifying performances by all who were involved. Just as fast as the concert began it ended, leaving everyone in a daze and wanting more. There is always next year!
