One of the hottest new talents today is a duo called the Yetsons. Named, by Fido, after the futuristic cartoon ‘The Jetsons,’ these two young men were brought into the industry by Alexis and Fido. They collaborated on the Invasion Vol. 1 album with their mentors on a track called ‘Ilogico.’ They are also featured on Alexis and Fido’s new album ‘Sobrenatural’ singing ‘We Belong Together.’ While supporting Alexis and Fido at their recent video shoot; they were gracious enough to speak with Reggaetonline.net.
Reggaetonline.net: Can you guys introduce yourselves and speak of the relationship you have with Alexis and Fido?
Antony: My name is Antony, I’m the only that does the chorus for the Yetsons. I am a cousin of Alexis. The guy who sings with me is Alexis’ brother, Small. We started in music since we were young back home in Puerto Rico. I began playing the guitar since I was eight years old. I sang ballads, I sang R&B then Alexis heard my talent. He pulled me to the side and let’s sing reggaeton, let’s make urban music. Let’s not just do reggaeton, let’s do bachata, everything. And I believe it’s been a very good decision in my life. We just started very early. And I guess let him explain…
Small: I’m Small of the Yetsons, I sang with Alexis when he wasn’t with Fido. Then we had gone in separate directions. I stayed on the island and he had left. Then he called for me to go with him. Since he knows I have a hip hop influence, he saw we knew English plus that Antony and I had talent. Then Alexis said, ‘wait a minute, let’s put the two of you together.’ So we formed a duo and made ‘Descontrol’ which is on ‘Reyes del Perreo’ (Alexis and Fido second CD). It was a hit; everyone liked it. Then we did ‘Ilogico’ for the Invasion Vol. 1 CD. In Puerto Rico it reached number 1.
Antony: Right now in Puerto Rico, Alexis and Fido are number 1 and the Yetsons are number 2! (Laughter)
Small: So you know right now things are going well. We are on their new CD ‘Sobrenatural’ on a couple songs. We have a bachata song with dirty south, too.
Antony: We are trying to do something ‘fresh’ as you guys say. Something really ‘fresh.’
It’s a mix of bachata, R&B, reggaeton and dirty south. We have crunk-chata. Thanks to Louiville (manager/stylist extraordinaire) for coming up with the crunk-chata term. (laughter)
Reggaetonline.net: How long have you guys been together?
Antony: We’ve been together for a year.
Small: Thank God you know, we’re family…
Antony: We fight, but…
Small: We love each other a lot.
Reggaetonline.net: When can the public expect a duo project from the Yetsons?
Antony: We have begun recording, everything is going great, it’s official. Hopefully for February 2008 or earlier. (Smiles) Our manager is telling us before.
