Reggaeton fans are patiently awaiting the release of the Chencho, Boy Wonder, and Urban Box Office (UBO) production. Chencho is part of the duo Plan B and Boy Wonder is the producer behind one of the best selling Reggaeton documentaries The Chosen Few: El Documental. El Draft is set to be released September 13, 2005. The second round of El Draft starts today. Those fans who voted in the first round now have a chance to vote again in the second round. When asked why do another round, Robert Andrezzi, Interactive Marketing Manager of Urban Box Office, Inc states, “We decided to do a second round of El Draft is that that campaign was so successful. We know everyone did not get a chance to have their say on whom they thought is the best out of all the artists included in the album. We really wanted to give the people another chance to choose again, NBA style. The artist track who wins the second round will be the second release of El Draft album.” The winner of the second round will be announced October 1, 2005
Expectations for this album is really high. “This album is really good, everybody on there has their own flava and style. People have been given a chance to choose from the best of the best Reggaeton artist new on the scene. It gives exposure to many different artists at one time,” says Andrezzi. This album will expose artist to new audiences in places outside of the east coast. Listeners will have a chance to hear the next Daddy Yankees or the Next Tegos. When the winner was announced, artists like Noztra, Jowell, from the duo Jowell y Randy, and LDA performed as well as winners Rakim y Ken Y. It was a great opportunity for the various artists on the album as well as the winners.
The El Draft release party will possibly will be located in Puerto Rico. Rob also adds that,“The first round draft winners were announced in New York. UBO would like to announce the winners of the second round in Puerto Rico if possible. The majority of the listeners of Reggaeton music are based in Puerto Rico and Reggaeton is synonymous with Puerto Rico, announcing the second winner there would be like taking the reggaeton back home.” UBO also held a drawing for 5 Apple ipods. Fans that actually chose Rakim y Ken as the winner were placed in a drawing for a chance to win one of those ipods. Winners were from Arizona, California, Illinois, and as well as 2 from New York. Since the event will be tentatively held in Puerto Rico, UBO has chosen to give a pair of tickets to the birth place of Reggaeton, Puerto Rico, to one of the fans who votes in this second round.
For the first time in the history of Reggaeton fans are being given a chance to choose their favorite artist from one album online. Reggaeton artist and producer Chencho, of duo Plan B, originally came up with the concept of finding stars in the genre and giving them worldwide exposure. Once again the winner(s) will have a chance to have their single heavily promoted in both Puerto Rico, in the United States. This is a chance of a lifetime for some artist who may not have the chance to be heard by a worldwide audience. An album featuring music by the up and coming artists and a nationwide tour will follow the competition and release of the album.
For the avid Reggaeton fans who voted, it was no surprise that Rakim y Ken Y were the winners of the first round. Their lyrical ability and vocals made them a the winner, hands down, for those who voted. Now listeners have a chance to choose from the other top five artists. The list includes Amaro, Angel Doze, Cheka, Fuego, and LDA. Vote now and have a chance to be entered into a drawing for a pair of tickets to Puerto Rico.
