During the video shoot of LDA’s song ‘Ilusiones’ featuring Vakero, Chyno Nyno and Reychester Secretweapon Reggaetonline.net was busy again. But you should know by now how we operate. We spoke with an influential figure on the radio and in the streets. Radio personality and host of La Kalle 105.9 FM, Stef La Kallejera.

A station dedicated to Reggaeton in NYC has helped to further this movement. Stef is one of the genre’s biggest supporters and someone who tries to help others, as well. She’s handled her business in the classroom, too. Stef holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Check the interview.

Reggaetonline.net: Please introduce yourself. Talk about what you do.

You already know Stef La Kallejera 105.9, you know what I mean. Straight from the Bronx, Shaolin (Staten Island), Bushwick, what’s poppin.’ Basically you know I work on La Kalle. It’s kind of hard to get up there, I started young, I started in promotions. I worked my way to overnights and then 7-12. And now I have my new show poppin’ Monday night to Tuesday morning 12am-2am every Tuesday on fire. It’s called Invasion Nueva Escuela (Invasion New School) my boy Cheeky Star up in the BX all day and myself. We are doing something with new artists that have talent like Vakero, Arcangel, De la Ghetto artists like that and also local talent. Hip Hop Latino, rap you know is not being portrayed well and also we play reggaeton. Because people think reggaeton is going to die, but it’s not going to happen. It’s going to stay, you know, from Puerto Rock to here. And they’re flippin’ the game. Reggaeton’s future looks really good I’m telling you daddy. That’s the truth and that’s how it’s going to be. And Latin Hip Hop is poppin’ off too. That’s the Latino movement in reality, 105.9, without a doubt La Kallejera.

Reggaetonline.net: Who did you look up to growing up?

As a Latina I always looked up to Angie Martinez (Radio personality Hot 97 FM). She was the first woman to put it down in a male dominated organization. The music game is harder for a female, especially for a Latina. I looked up to her and she gave me a lot of power, a lot of energy to do what I wanted to do. And all the girls out there you can do something different with your lives. On the real…from the hood made it this far. Try to stay in school; my ladies keep your heads up. If I could do it you can do it. That’s how I feel, we have to stay focused. It’s going to be unity; females are going to do it this year and all the time. So hopefully my ladies you know how it is, La Kallejera supporting the women without a doubt.
