After completing the digital mastering process of his most recent album, Tego Calderón, “El Abayarde”, will be launching his new single “Los Maté” in the United States and Puerto Rico. This track will be featured in his new album The Underdog/El Subestimado, which is slated for release on august 29 under the Jiggiri/Atlantic Records label.

“Los Maté” is a Reggaetón track which features a sampling from the classic Mexican ballad “El preso número 9” composed by Antonio Cantoral García y Roberto Cantoral García . Tego uses this intro as a reminder to all of his lyrical and musical skills.

“I am very satisfied with the work we have done, I feel this track has a very rich sound and it shows off the level of care and effort we put into the album” commented Tego Calderón.

The new album contains 21 musical tracks and features collaborations with such names as Buju Banton, Bataklán, Voltio, Eddie Dee, , Yandel, Zion, Chyno Nyno and Don Omar. The album also features the work of producers Luny Tunes, DJ Nelson, Danny Fornaris, DJ Nesty, Naldo, DJ Joe, DJ Fat, Echo & Diesel, Cookee, Major League, Salaam Remi, Eric Figueroa and Luis Cabán who composed the song Chango Blanco.

Calderón defines his new production as a “musical journey through the afro Caribbean culture, (it) showcases poetry from the heart and from the streets; it is a fusion of elements taken from the traditional “bomba puertorriqueña”; Jamaican reggae; Blues, Cuban Rumba and New York Salsa. This all comes together to create a very unique sound.”

Calderón uses a wide array of musical instruments in this most recent production. He brings to his palate the sounds of percussion and brass to create vivid imagery that calls back to the old rhythms of legendary salsa greats. In this album Calderon has set aside the overused sounds of synthesized computer generated tracks and has strived to bring forth a more complete and integral sound.

This week Tego will be traveling again to the city of New York to continue with his the promotional visits to some of the leading North American media outlets.

“I know this album with give people a lot to talk about”, concluded Calderón.
