SAN JUAN – Veteran Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Tito “El Bambino” is heading the list with 18 nominations at the 2010 Billboard Latin Music Awards, which will be presented April 29 at San Juan’s Coliseo de Puerto Rico.
Other Puerto Rican reggaeton performers Wisin & Yandel were nominated for 14 prizes, while the Dominican bachata group Aventura garnered 12 nominations and Mexican singer Espinoza Paz will compete for eight.
Among the categories in which El Bambino was nominated are Latin Artist of the Year, Producer of the Year, Latin Digital Album of the Year and Latin Album of the Year for “El Patron,” while his song “El amor” was put up for Hot Latin Song of the Year, Latin Digital Download of the Year and Tropical Airplay Song of the Year.
The number “Mi cama huele a ti,” which El Bambino recorded with the Puerto Rican reggaeton duo Zion and Lennox, also was nominated for Hot Latin Song of the Year.
Wisin & Yandel, meanwhile, were nominated for Latin Artist of the Year and received two nominations for Hot Latin Song of the Year: “Gracias a ti,” which they recorded with Spaniard Enrique Iglesias, and “All up 2 you” with Aventura and Akon.
In addition, their album “La revolucion” was nominated for Album of the Year, Latin Rhythm Album of the Year and Digital Album of the Year.
Aventura will compete for Latin Artist of the Year, and their most recent production, “The Last,” was nominated for Latin Album of the Year, Tropical Album of the Year and Digital Latin Album of the Year.
Also, singer Anthony “Romeo” Santos is a finalist in the Composer of the Year category.
Paz is up for Male Artist of the Year and Hot Latin Songs Artist of the Year, Male, among others.
Billboard also presents discretionary prestigious prizes, including the Spirit of Hope award for humanitarian contributions and the Lifetime Achievement award.
The announcement of the nominations was made simultaneously in Los Angeles, Miami, New York and San Juan.
The presentation of the prizes will be held for the first time in Puerto Rico, but past editions of the awards took place in Miami. EFE
